Brian and John will discuss the discuss the investigation process following a serious workplace incident both from a regulator and PCBU perspective. This will include the requirements to notify, no disturb the scene, dealing with regulator’s entry and investigation powers, complying with notices and conducting investigations to implement corrective actions. They will discuss the management of various interested parties and stakeholders, and the processes following the completion of an investigation.

John Makris
John has over 27 years experience working in regulatory workplace health and safety, environmental and heavy vehicle compliance, dealing with regulators, and providing advice and representation on numerous issues, John is regarded as a notable senior leader in the industry. His focus on providing exceptional service and support to them is admired by John’s peers and colleagues and valued by his clients. His real passion is helping clients get their businesses back on track with minimum downtime and disruption, following workplace incidents and investigations.
John expertly guides clients through the uncertainty and complexity of dealing with workplace incidents, including police and regulator investigations, prosecutions and coronial proceedings. His insightful, clear and practical advice is built around helping teams and people understand what has occurred and what needs to happen next, and focused on minimising any adverse impacts on the business and its people. Brian Hughes
Brian Hughes is a passionate safety practitioner with professional expertise in Work Health and Safety and management systems, with experience across a broad range of technical disciplines. His background includes qualification in electronics and experience in manufacturing environments. He has worked across both the public and private sectors in safety, quality and environmental management and as a lead quality certification auditor.
With extensive experience of over 13 years as a SafeWork Inspector, Brian has a sound knowledge of WHS legislation and how it can be practically applied to improve safety for NSW workers, workplaces and stakeholders. Brian has also featured in a number of SafeWork’s Safety Videos and Webinars and represented SafeWork as a panel member at the Consultation at Work conference in October 2018.
